This 16 km x 17 km map is a very low fidelity representation of an area around the village of Jurm in the Varduj Valley of Ahghanistan. The map is based on a map sketch from page 34 of "The Bear Went Over The Mountain". The companion article is titled "Blocking, sweeping and destroying the mujahideen in the Varduj Valley by Major S.V. Krutyakov and is included in the map set as an Acrobat Reader PDF file.

Map color indicates relative roughness of the terrain. The darker the color the more rough is the terrain.

Most low ground terrain is rough level 1. The lighter color that generally follows roads and surrounds towns indicates clear terrain.

Orange color is used to mark the transition from low ground to high ground.

UTM grid coordinates are notional with the lower left corner of the map arbitrarily set as 00.
